About Placement Cell

The current business environment is extremely dynamic, uncertain and competitive. As a result, the demand for a new breed of managers who can meet the challenges is at its peak. Therefore, the placement process at Dr. D. Y. Patil B-School includes a continuous assessment of the diverse global trends to spot and identify the right opportunities for students so that their careers get a strong start.

The students are prepared for placement through training, assessment, guest lectures, short-term projects, internships and the summer internship programme.

Placement Team

The Placement Cell at the institute consists of experienced professionals from the industry as well as academia. The placement team guides and trains students to prepare them for placements in top business organizations across the world. Care is taken during the placement process to ensure that the skills and talents of the students match the job profiles in the organizations.

Part of the efforts of placement team at the institute is reshaping attitude, improving attitude and personality development. This is done through numerous workshops, assessment centres, classroom training and panel discussions, besides guest lectures by industry captains.

During the course, the students are offered industry-driven short-term projects to sharpen their understanding of and skills in their chosen areas of specialization. The projects are offered right from the first semester so that the students are conversant with the current industry trends and practices to improve their chances at placement. The short-term projects are, thus, uniquely blended into the courseware to help the students understand the industry better.

Internship plays an important role in shaping the careers of students since it gives them practical hands-on training, which helps them launch their careers. The goal of an internship is also to help companies identify future leaders who can grow within the organization. Hence, the placement team lays great emphasis on students doing their internships the right way and helps them do it the right way.

The students at the institute go for a summer internship that lasts for 8 weeks. The 8-week long summer internship is given to them during the summer break between their second and third semesters. The internship helps students develop a perspective of the industry as they experience the need for complete professionalism and also get a feel of the competition in the corporate world.

The Placement Cell at the institute strives around the year to achieve the right balance between the expectations of the industry on the one hand, and the ability of the students to deliver from their first day on the job, on the other. The placement team makes effort to ensure that the students get placed in companies where they fit intellectually as well as culturally. This is achieved through an exhaustive training calendar and involvement of academic teams at every step.

The placement team at the institute arranges multiple opportunities for the students during the placement season. The students have complete freedom to pick and choose the companies that they apply to for placements. Furthermore, the placement team regularly arranges sector-specific and company-specific training to set the right expectations among the students, which also helps them to perform well.

Summer Internship Program

The Summer Internship Programme (SIP) at the institute places the students for an 8-week long internship after their second semester and before their third semester. The major goals of the SIP are as follows:

  • Gain a thorough understanding of their specific domain.
  • Recognize the job profiles that fall under their domain and the skill sets that are required.
  • Get corporate experience so that they are prepared to begin their careers.

The students are placed in various industries, firms and companies for eight weeks during the summer. The internship not only bridges the gap between theory and practise, but also improves the skill sets and knowledge necessary to succeed in the corporate world. Students also get the opportunity to have a greater grasp of the corporate world, to work as part of a team, and to comprehend what their customers and clients want from them. The students are not only taught how to learn, but also how to perform in an organisation in order to receive a Pre-Placement Offer (PPO), which improves their chances for a placement.

After their internships are over, the students make presentations before the corporate heads, in which they exhibit their work or project undertaken during the internship. Students are evaluated for the skills they acquired and the information they received during the internship, but also on how they contributed to the company’s success through their work. The presentations and the question and answer sessions that follow help the students develop practical knowledge and confidence.

Placement Training

Dr. D. Y. Patil B-School has a comprehensive placement training programme in place. The training starts right on the first day of academics and continues till the students get a placement. The training includes skill assessment test, group discussions, corporate seminars and panel interview round. The curriculum has been designed in line with the needs of the industry to make the students industry-ready.

Several rounds on on- placements are conducted. Several of those rounds are screening rounds to select the students who give the best performance. The students who have the best performance appear for the final interview.

Here is an overview of the different placement training given to the students.

Skill assessment test – assessment is usually an aptitude-based test that helps determine the reasoning and analytical abilities of a student. This is part of the curriculum and is conducted within the academic structure from the first semester to prepare the students for the first round of placement.

Industry-relevant curriculum – The curriculum is developed based on the reverse system approach and conforms to the AICTE framework. This helps develop industry-relevant post-graduate programs in management. The programs have been designed with close collaboration with the association of companies. This helps make the students ready for the industry as well as develop their careers. The needs of the industry are assessed through continued interaction with companies who share their job specifications. The program educational objectives are then planned to meet the job specifications.

Corporate seminars – Seminars and workshops provide a chance to interact with experts from the specific field. Discussing the relevant topics of the particular subject, students tend to learn about the latest information and new skills related to the concerned subject. As a result of genuine interest shown by the students to know and learn about the subject, they research about the particular topic with the help of expert guidance and land in their conclusion after a careful investigation, experiment, and simulation. At Dr. D.Y. Patil B-School we conduct regular corporate sessions where renowned corporates from distinguished corporates visit us to connect with our students.

Group discussions – Group discussions are conducted at regular intervals to assess the communication skills, leadership skills, management skills, team-building skills, social skills, problem-solving skills and presence of mind of the students. Based on their performance, professional trainers helps the students enhance their skill sets with regular activities.

Mock panel interview – Mock panel interviews are conducted to prepare the students for the actual interviews. Panels of professional recruiting managers interview the potential candidates face-to-face. The panels consist of experts from the corporate world. Separate sessions are conducted for the technical aspects and the HR aspects to prepare the students for their final placement.
