Mental health awareness and safety programs

IQAC of Dr. D.Y. Patil B-School organized a workshop for students – Mental health awareness and safety programs”

Objectives:

  1. To understand the challenges faced by modern youth
  2. Signs & Symptoms of mental illness
  3. To promote understanding and competence w.r.t mental illness
  4. To discuss the importance of decreasing biases and increasing mental health awareness
  5. Provide safe and effective support to peers by applying the information they have learned in the workshop

Brief Description:
IQAC of Dr. D. Y. Patil B-School conducted a workshop on “Mental health awareness and safety programs.”
During the first session of the workshop, Mr. Amit Jain made a presentation on Mental health awareness which covered areas like – challenges faced by modern youth, seeing the early signs, understanding the impact and building collaborative relationships between the institute and students' families and communities. After the presentation, the participants were given a few worksheets on these areas and their performance was evaluated and necessary feedback on how to improve these skills was given.

In the second session, an elaborate discussion was made on various reasons for the most prevalent mental illness symptoms such as depression, anxiety and substance abuse. To discuss certain issues which students feel that they are unable to discuss with parents like battling with social stigma, coping with stress, body image and cultural identity.

In the last session, the areas that were dealt was The trilogy of mood swings, anger and stress, that discussed the interconnection between these three issues and how to mitigate them. Towards the end of the session, a few participants gave their feedback explaining how the program helped them to overcome social stigma related to mental health and made them more competent in taking care of their mental health.
