The activity supported key SDGs including SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reflecting DYPBS’s commitment to global sustainability agendas.
3. To Encourage Youth Participation in Community-Led Green Initiatives
By engaging over 100 student volunteers, the event fostered a strong culture of youth-led action and collective accountability toward environmental well-being.
4. To Educate Students on Indigenous Plant Species and Biodiversity
The saplings planted belonged to the Rhizophoraceae family—highlighting the importance of preserving native species that support local ecosystems and biodiversity.
5. To Strengthen Teamwork and Social Responsibility
The tree plantation served as a platform for students to collaborate outside the classroom while embracing their role as socially responsible business leaders of tomorrow.
On 17th July 2025, the SDG Cell of Dr. D. Y. Patil B-School, Pune, spearheaded a large-scale Tree Plantation Drive across the lush regions of Mahabaleshwar and Wai. Over 100 passionate students participated in this impactful initiative, planting saplings from the Rhizophoraceae family—a group of trees well-known for their ecological resilience and role in habitat restoration.
With shovels in hand and a shared sense of purpose, students not only planted trees but also sowed the seeds of responsibility, sustainability, and hope for a greener future. The plantation areas were chosen for their potential to support long-term growth, water retention, and soil stabilization—further maximizing the ecological impact.
The initiative was not merely an environmental act but also a profound learning experience, offering students the opportunity to connect with nature, understand the fragility of ecosystems, and witness firsthand how small efforts can yield lasting benefits for the planet.
Outcomes and Impact
Planted a significant number of native saplings, contributing to local biodiversity.
Strengthened environmental consciousness among future business leaders.
Created a hands-on learning opportunity tied to sustainability, ecosystem restoration, and community impact.
Reinforced DYPBS’s role as an institution that actively supports climate action and sustainable development.
Conclusion
The Tree Plantation Drive at Mahabaleshwar and Wai was a vibrant expression of youth activism, environmental responsibility, and institutional commitment to sustainability. As the saplings take root and grow, so too does the commitment of the students of Dr. D. Y. Patil B-School to be mindful stewards of the earth.
This initiative stands as a reminder that real change begins with conscious action—and that business and nature can grow together when driven by purpose.
