Detail Report -
Dr. D. Y. Patil B-School, Tathawade, organized an insightful and motivational guest lecture on the topic “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” on 23rd June 2025 as part of the Induction Programme for the newly admitted MBA students. The speaker for the session was Ms. Hema Anand, a renowned Corporate Trainer and Leadership Coach, who has conducted over 200 workshops for corporate and academic institutions.
The objective of the session was to introduce students to the world-famous framework by Stephen R. Covey, aimed at building a strong personal foundation and effective interpersonal relationships. Ms. Anand shared that the habits are not quick-fix solutions but deeply rooted principles of character ethics and long-term transformation.
The session began with a brief introduction to the author and the origin of the book, first published in 1989, which has remained one of the most influential personal development books to date. She highlighted that it’s not just about being successful — but about being effective with the right balance of personal values, vision, and collaboration.
Key Discussion Highlights:
The 7 Habits Overview:
Ms. Anand provided a quick summary of all the seven habits:
Be Proactive – Take initiative and responsibility for your choices
Begin with the End in Mind – Set clear goals and visions
Put First Things First – Prioritize what truly matters
Think Win-Win – Seek mutual benefit in relationships
Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood – Practice empathetic communication
Synergize – Combine strengths for better outcomes
Sharpen the Saw – Continuous improvement and self-care
Each habit was explained with practical, student-related examples and real-life analogies.
Habits & the Maturity Continuum:
Ms. Deshpande explained how:
Habits 1 to 3 lead to Private Victory (self-mastery),
Habits 4 to 6 lead to Public Victory (effective relationships),
Habit 7 ensures renewal and lifelong growth.
She used a ladder diagram to visually represent the transition from dependence → independence → interdependence.
Application in Student Life:
Students were guided on how to:
Build discipline and take charge of their learning (Habits 1–3)
Collaborate during projects and presentations (Habits 4–6)
Manage stress and maintain work-life balance (Habit 7)
Interactive Engagement:
The session included:
A quick self-reflection activity on which habit they already follow
A group interaction on how to implement Habit 3: Put First Things First
during the MBA journey
Encouragement to maintain a habit tracker for the next 30 days
Conclusion & Takeaways:
Ms. Deshpande concluded the session with a strong message:
“You are the programmer of your life — the 7 Habits give you the code. Start now, and build the version of you that the future needs.”
The session left the participants energized and introspective. Many students expressed their interest in reading the full book and practicing at least one habit consistently.
The institution expressed its sincere gratitude to Ms. Riya Deshpande for delivering a highly engaging and thought-provoking session. Her clarity, storytelling style, and practical tips made the 7 Habits framework accessible and actionable for all.
