Detail Report:
As part of the holistic development initiatives under the Diksharambh 2025–27 Induction Program, Dr. D. Y. Patil B-School proudly celebrated International Day of Yoga with a rejuvenating session focused on Sitting Yoga and Surya Namaskar.
The session was led by an experienced yoga instructor who guided the students through a series of gentle, seated yoga asanas, breathing techniques (Pranayama), and a demonstration of Surya Namaskar. The session began with an introduction by faculty members, highlighting the significance of yoga in daily life and its positive impact on academic and personal performance.
The students from both PGDM and PGDM Global batches (2025–27) enthusiastically participated in the session, discovering the benefits of yoga that can be practiced even in the classroom or during study breaks.
Key Highlights:
1. Seated Yoga Techniques: Students learned simple asanas such as neck rolls, shoulder rotations, seated twists, and ankle movements that relieve muscular tension and improve posture.
2. Mindfulness & Breathing: Focus was placed on deep breathing (Pranayama) exercises like Anulom-Vilom and Bhramari to help reduce stress and enhance focus.
3. Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation): The instructor demonstrated the 12-step sequence of Surya Namaskar, encouraging students to make it a part of their daily morning routine.
4. Yoga for Students: Emphasis was placed on how regular practice of yoga can help students combat physical strain from prolonged sitting, reduce anxiety before exams, and improve energy levels.
5. Accessibility of Yoga: Students were reassured that yoga is for everyone, regardless of flexibility or prior experience, and can be easily done in a limited space.
Case Demonstrations & Interactive Participation:
The session included live demonstrations of seated yoga poses.
Students followed along with breathing exercises and stretches.
The instructor shared real-life examples of students improving concentration and reducing screen fatigue through yoga.
Message to Students:
1. Yoga Anywhere, Anytime: Students were encouraged to include 5–10 minutes of seated yoga during their study hours to enhance productivity.
2. Well-being is a Priority: Academic success is linked to physical and mental health. Yoga provides a free, effective, and sustainable way to manage both.
3. Consistency Over Intensity: The instructor emphasized that even short, consistent practice can yield long-term benefits.
4. Balance & Mindfulness: Yoga is not just exercise—it’s a way to connect the body and mind, helping students find inner balance in a competitive world.
Outcomes of the Session:
The yoga session successfully raised awareness about the importance of integrating wellness practices into students’ daily lives. It left participants feeling relaxed, energized, and inspired to continue practicing yoga beyond the classroom.
