Detail Report:
As part of the Diksharambh 2025–27 induction program, Dr. D. Y. Patil B-School was honoured to host a thought-provoking and strategic session on career planning and industry alignment by Mr. Kashish Chaurasia. The session began with a warm welcome and brief introduction by the faculty, followed by Mr. Chaurasia’s engaging masterclass.
The lecture focused on helping students navigate the early stages of career decision-making, emphasizing the importance of sector fit over short-term financial incentives. Drawing from his diverse industry experience—including consulting, analytics, and digital strategy—Mr. Chaurasia guided students on how to align their strengths with market opportunities.
Attended by the PGDM and PGDM Global Batch of 2025–27, the session encouraged students to take calculated risks, invest in internship learning, and prepare for future-proof careers by acquiring both technical and strategic skills.
Key Highlights:
1.Sector Selection: Students were encouraged to choose career sectors based on genuine interest and deep industry research rather than short-term financial motivations.
2. Industry Complexity: The automotive industry was cited as an example of how deep knowledge and specialization are required in complex industries.
3. Calculated Career Risk: Mr. Chaurasia advised students to take informed risks and pivot based on experience, not assumptions.
4. Value of Internships: Personal experience of discovering a misfit in FMCG through an internship was shared to illustrate the importance of real-world exposure.
5. Emerging Roles: High-growth roles such as Management Consulting, Digital Strategy, ESG, Risk Advisory, and Techno-Functional positions were highlighted as promising career paths.
Message to Students
1. Fit Over Money: Students were cautioned against selecting jobs solely for financial gains, using the speaker’s own Cognizant experience as a cautionary tale.
2. Changing Industry vs. Changing Role: It’s easier to change roles within a sector than to shift industries entirely—choose wisely at the start.
3. Techno-Functional Skills: The demand for professionals who understand both technology and business is growing rapidly.
4. Tools and Technologies: Tools like Power BI, SQL, and MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) were recommended for students looking to enter data-driven and operations-intensive roles.
5. HR Sector Shift: Traditional HR roles are becoming obsolete due to automation; niche HR consulting and analytics are on the rise.
Outcomes of the Session:
The session empowered students with a practical understanding of how to navigate early career choices through sector analysis, self-reflection, and the use of internships to validate career interests. It also provided clarity on rising career trends and the importance of technical skills in future roles. The students left with a clearer understanding of how to match their strengths with evolving industry demands.
The session equipped the students of Dr. D. Y. Patil B-School with a strong foundation to comprehend the significance of Career Planning and Sector Selection in building future-ready professionals. Through real-life experiences and actionable insights, Mr. Kashish Chaurasia encouraged students to make informed career choices by aligning their interests with industry demands, while developing both technical capabilities and strategic thinking.
