Friday, January 03, 2025

Date: 3rd January 2025 to 31st January 2025

Time: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Venue: Computer Lab 1

Resource Person: Dr. Tejpal Singh Batra

Participants: PGDM Students

Faculty Coordinator: Prof. Ganesh Pathak

Organizer: Center for Learning and Development, DYPBS

Objectives:

1. To introduce students to the fundamentals of Prompt Engineering and its role in AI-driven tools.
2. To enable students to design effective prompts for tools like ChatGPT and other large language models.
3. To demonstrate real-world applications of prompt engineering, especially in finance and analytics domains.
4. To foster creativity and analytical thinking in using AI tools for academic and professional tasks.
5. To build AI literacy among management students, making them future-ready for technology-integrated roles.

A month-long intensive session on Prompt Engineering was conducted by Prof. Tejpal Singh Batra. The session was designed to familiarize PGDM (Finance) students with AI-based tools and techniques that are transforming industries. The focus was on enabling students to interact meaningfully with large language models using well-crafted prompts.

Workshop Highlights:
Week 1: Introduction to Prompt Engineering
The first week introduced students to the foundational concepts of Prompt Engineering. Prof. Tejpal Singh Batra explained the workings of Large Language Models (LLMs) and how Generative AI, such as ChatGPT, processes and responds to user prompts. The sessions emphasized the growing importance of these technologies in the professional world, especially in finance and business contexts. Students gained an understanding of how AI models interpret language and the crucial role that well-crafted prompts play in achieving accurate and meaningful outputs.

Week 2: Prompt Crafting Techniques
The second week focused on building practical skills in crafting effective prompts. Students learned various techniques for writing clear, specific, and goal-oriented prompts that align with their intended output. The sessions covered the different types of prompts—descriptive, comparative, analytical—and how small changes in wording can lead to significantly different AI responses. Through exercises and examples, students developed confidence in shaping prompts to match academic, analytical, and business needs.

Week 3: Application in Finance and Business Analytics
During the third week, the focus shifted toward real-world applications, particularly in the areas of finance and analytics. Students were guided on how to use prompt engineering to extract financial insights, generate reports, summarize trends, and even simulate client interactions using AI tools. They engaged in hands-on activities involving the creation of finance-based prompts, helping them visualize how this skill can enhance productivity and decision-making in the financial domain.

Week4: Practical Implementation and Feedback
The final week were dedicated to practical implementation and peer learning. Students worked individually and in groups to design prompts based on finance-related case studies. They then tested these prompts using tools like ChatGPT, reviewed the AI-generated responses, and refined their prompts for improved accuracy and relevance. Peer reviews and feedback sessions encouraged collaborative learning, helping participants understand different prompt strategies and broaden their perspectives on interacting with AI tools effectively.

Key Takeaways
1. Understanding the importance of prompt clarity in generating accurate AI responses.
2. Gaining hands-on experience in designing prompts for real-world business and financial scenarios.
3. Learning how AI tools like ChatGPT can assist in research, analysis, and communication.
4. Enhancing critical thinking and creativity by experimenting with different prompt techniques.
5. Building confidence in using generative AI tools to support academic and professional work.

Conclusion
The workshop conducted by Dr. Tejpal Singh Batra was a resounding success. Held from 3rd January to 31st January 2025, it provided PGDM Finance students with valuable insights and practical skills relevant to their specialization. The knowledge and experience gained during the sessions will undoubtedly support them in their academic journey and future professional endeavours.
