Brief Report:
On October 27, 2023, Dr. D.Y. Patil B-School's Start-up and Innovation Cell, with the collaboration of the IIC Council, arranged for an expert session on "ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION" AS CAREER through online mode. The resource person and the chief speaker of this session was Mr. Avelo Roy, Managing Director and Start-up Mentor at Kolkata Ventures. The session encompassed a comprehensive discussion of various essential aspects, with a primary emphasis on guiding students towards practical entrepreneurial skills and knowledge. The speaker elucidated the trending focus in the market and the evolving needs and desires of consumers. This laid the foundation for a series of activities designed to empower students in their entrepreneurial journey.
One of the key objectives of the session was to help students identify real-world problems and their corresponding target markets. Through an interactive activity, students were tasked with articulating their own skills and passions. This exercise not only aided in the identification of their strengths but also shed light on how to channelize these abilities and leverage their weaknesses. The overarching goal was to inspire students to harness their genuine interests and skills when venturing into startups.
Furthermore, the session delved into the crucial concepts of market and product/service identification and the intricacies of crafting a robust business model. A particularly engaging activity entailed students formulating a concise problem statement in a specific 30-word format, while also identifying their target market and pinpointing a pain point. This exercise encouraged critical thinking and honed problem-solving skills.
The importance of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) was elucidated, drawing upon the example of Airbnb to showcase the significance of minimum viable features. The speaker also introduced the Agile chart as a tool to steer startups in the right direction. In alignment with the objective to equip students with practical skills, the session shed light on the utilization of cutting-edge technology and tools such as UI and UX, demonstrating how these resources can be harnessed to enhance both service and product businesses. To enhance critical and creative thinking, the session concluded with an inspiring statement for the students. They were reminded that failure is an integral part of the journey towards success, serving as a test of one's learning and development capabilities. In essence, the session aimed to foster an environment where students could identify real-world problems, embrace innovation, and develop their entrepreneurial skills while cultivating critical and creative thinking.
